Meet Jyyeun (Jeannie) Kim, LMFT
Jyyeun “Jeannie” Kim is a trauma-informed couples and individual therapist serving Irvine and Tustin, CA. She specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, and culturally responsive, attachment-based care for adults and couples seeking deeper connection and healing.
A Grounded, Culturally Attuned Approach to Healing and Connection
I’m a Korean American, bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of Well Minded Path Counseling. I work with individuals and couples who are seeking deeper understanding, emotional clarity, and more meaningful connection — both within themselves and in their relationships.
Many of the people I work with are capable, high-functioning adults. On the outside, they are managing responsibilities, careers, and family life. On the inside, they often feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally disconnected, or unsure how to change long-standing patterns.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and begin creating change in a way that feels safe, steady, and sustainable.
Hi, I’m Jyyeun (Jeannie).
Who We Are
-
I believe that healing happens when we attend to the whole person—our emotions, thoughts, body, relationships, and sense of meaning. What we experience internally often shows up in our relationships, and what happens between us can deeply shape our inner world. My work is guided by this understanding, supporting healing from the inside out and from the outside in.
Rather than focusing on quick fixes or surface-level solutions, I approach therapy as a collaborative process rooted in curiosity, emotional safety, and compassion. Together, we work to understand patterns that have developed over time and gently explore new ways of relating—to yourself and to others.
-
My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and attachment-based perspectives, which emphasize the importance of emotional experience, connection, and safety. Emotions are not something to eliminate or control; they offer valuable information about our needs, fears, and longings. When we learn to listen to them with care, meaningful change becomes possible.
I am also EMDR trained, allowing us to process distressing or traumatic experiences when appropriate, helping them become less emotionally charged and more integrated. Alongside this, I incorporate cognitive and insight-oriented approaches to explore how beliefs, thought patterns, and self-criticism shape emotional experiences and behavior.
Because stress and trauma live not only in the mind but also in the body, I integrate somatic and nervous-system–informed practices to support regulation and grounding. This may include slowing the pace, tuning into physical sensations, and working with the body’s responses as part of the therapeutic process.
For clients who find it meaningful, I also welcome a spiritual or faith-informed lens in therapy. This can include exploring values, purpose, and sources of meaning that support resilience and healing, always guided by your individual beliefs and background.
My approach is integrative, flexible, and tailored, drawing from multiple modalities to meet your unique needs rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.
-
In individual therapy, I work with clients navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, trauma, identity concerns, and life transitions. Many people come to therapy feeling disconnected from themselves or unsure why certain patterns keep repeating. Together, we explore these experiences with curiosity and compassion, building insight, emotional awareness, and greater self-trust.
-
My work with couples focuses on understanding the emotional and relational patterns that keep partners feeling stuck or disconnected. Using EFT, we identify negative cycles, strengthen emotional safety, and support more open and responsive connection. I have a particular sensitivity to interracial and multicultural couples, and I approach this work with cultural awareness, respect, and openness to each partner’s lived experience.
-
As a Korean American therapist, I bring a multicultural and culturally sensitive perspective into my work. I understand how culture, family expectations, immigration experiences, and intergenerational dynamics can shape emotional life and relationships.
I offer therapy in both English and Korean, allowing clients to express themselves in the language that feels most natural and emotionally resonant.
